Review of Irreversible (2002) by Kim B — 16 Nov 2011
It was all shock and no substance, famous because of it's unusual and raw content rather than it's core. Great like we haven't seen this already a million times before and taking it to the next level of violence doesn't make it better.
Kind of just a take that what happens, happens and morals are pointless in life because time has already decided our fate. Nonetheless, acting was pretty good and I liked how it went backwards as far as directing and the score.
I didn't feel connected to the characters until the last few minutes. The style was good, just kind of pointless as far as why the violence was deemed necessary. Also, they make rapists out to be the stereotypical sick gay pimp, when usually it's just someone a person knows.
Usually they also don't beat their victim almost to death and that's what makes rape truly horrifying that it's done by a seemingly normal person, not cheap sensationalism used to draw home the point that rape is bad.
Of course the victim is pregnant too I mean this is just stupid as far as the filmmaker is trying to make it horrific by coincidence, like a soap opera rather than emotions and thought.
