Review of Irreversible (2002) by Simon D — 24 Jul 2014
Gaspar Noe obviously specialises in making films that are difficult to watch. Enter the Void was a masterpiece. This is his second film I have seen and so I compare it to the other and this loses out. Watching a film backwards should be a lot more difficult that it is here.
The reason is that the story is very simple, too simple. Read the synopsis above and that's about it. The scenes of violence go on for at least twice as long as they needed to, making them the images that stick in you mind, as the director intended.
It's a challenge to watch for several reasons but you wouldn't want to watch it again, or need to.
