Review of Irreversible (2002) by Anthony I — 14 Mar 2015

It's in the same league as Salo and A Serbian Film. This film is terrifying. You have to challenge yourself as a cinephile every now and then by watching notoriously outrageous pictures, but there is only so much you can take.

This movie crosses the line for me. Don't watch it, unless you want to be filled with absolute loathing. I'll give the film credit for being experimental and artistically stimulating with it's variety of shots, if nothing else.

But what you get, essentially, is a vision of hell. It forces you to look in the eyes of evil... for 10 straight minutes. Evil is the only word to describe that scene. But at what cost? Since the film is told backwards, we already know that the crime wasn't brought to justice.

. so is there any reason to watch the rest of the events as they unfolded? If you're looking for a great film by Gaspar Noe, just watch Enter the Void.. please.
