Review of Irreversible (2002) by David L — 18 Jul 2009
Gaspar Noe shines with splendor in his direction, which is meant to unease the viewer, and it definitely did it job quite well, because Irreversible is one of the most disturbing movies due to its visuals and unique unsettling sounds.
What really made no sense in the movie is the backward telling. Why on earth should a story should be told backwards, if there was no hint or strong point in the early plot ? The peak of the movie was in its 10 minutes rape scene, which Noe wasn't afraid to show every single detail of it, disturbing the viewer even more.
If you have the guts, if you're not easily sexually offended, if you're not easily disturbed by weird sounds and visuals, catch up with Irreversible. If not, stay away at all costs.
