Review of Irreversible (2002) by Lee B — 01 Feb 2011
This movie was more disturbing than any horror movie I've seen and right up there with Requiem for a Dream. My girl friend said this movie is worse for women than Requiem, and I won't argue. But while this movie was more disturbing than depressing and very one track moral minded, I feel Requiem went very deep into so many emotions that get crushed that it has the edge on overall ranking and overall depression.
Still, this is a very good movie that is done to very good effect. The style it starts off with and maintains as it gets past the big moments and lulls us into the thoughts of what happened before it all and how this can drive someone mad is perfect. It doesn't stay as focused as it could have a lingers quite a bit toward the end, but minor complaints for a great movie. I can't wait to see Into the Void and see what he can do with such another visual experience as that of this first segment in this movie.
