After Old Boy, Irreversible is the most haunting anti-vengeance film. The film is controversial for it's violence and rape scene, but all's for a purpose. The most gruesome scenes in the film are a rape scene, now what makes this more horrifying is it's screen time of over 14 minutes and the violence in the end of the rape (you know that it will happen eventually and you are forced to wait), the next scene is however the most gruesome and most haunting, it's about 'The Rectum', a club for homosexuals. This scene is equally long in screen time and as the protagonist moves further and further into the club, it gets more and more horrifying and this is actually the best depiction of a hell(literally) on earth. The film benefits from it's stylish cinematography and Gasper Noe's direction. The performances are believable and the story is realistic.
