Review of Irrational Man (2015) by Ken S — 21 Feb 2016
Woody Allen's yearly film of 2015 is average. I love the premise, a man who overhears someone's plight and decides to commit a murder for them, believing that nothing could connect him to the murder as he has absolutely no relation to the victim.
..but the execution is just so-so. This just felt like a half thought out idea, and Allen put in some filler to make it a feature and just made it because he is incapable of going a year without making a movie.
The premise was great, and the cast is great...and Allen has proven he can do a movie like this before...but the tone felt off and the movie just never clicked 100%. It is kind of a shame, because I really think the central idea is a good one.
..but maybe if the movie had focused more on the guy's internal struggle with carrying out this perfect crime, rather than this whole open thread of the student he is having an affair with. I dunno.
..something could've made this work, but it just didn't totally work. Lame execution really.
