Review of Ironclad (2011) by Ryan G — 19 Jul 2011
I can't understand the low ratings from Flix users and critics alike. This is a very well done recreation of a particularly bloody post Magna Carta event. Sure there is some macho grizzled posturing but these were men for fk's sake who didn't need one ounce of counselling to combat post traumatic stress! I thought the overly long simpering long looks between the love interest and Purefoy a bit tedious (sworn Templars weren't supposed to enjoy female delights but we knew he wanted out anyway after the horrors of war so just get a move on with the bedding then leave it!). But that said you weren't left in any doubt about the misery and gore of battle in those times, so many other films in this genre which score higher than this don't convince on this front preferring tthe A-team effect of masses of stab wounds etc but little blood and entrails.
Purefoy seems to have a face made for these roles so I see very little wrong in his work and Cox is a mega-performer too. Jacobi did the decent thing and hung himself when the going tgot tto tough.
Let's have more!! War of the Roses anyone?
