Iron Sky was supposed to be the smash hit scifi parody of the 2012, instead the Space Nazis disappointingly land into the bargain bins.

In 2005 the Finnish director Timo Vuorensola's film Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning was somewhat of an sensation. The director and his small band of friends produced a noteworthy Sci-Fi parody of Star Trek with a ridiculously low budged. Rough and mainly improvised the film still contained great special effects which surprised all. Thus expectations were high when Vuorensola's new project, Iron Sky, was announced. This time Vuorensola would have an actual budget - a small one, but still an actual budget! - to work with and the story of Space Nazi invading earth from the dark side of the moon, sounded crazy and in the same time perfect match for a Sci-Fi parody. Sadly it was not meant to be.

With Iron Sky, Vuorensola's team continue to produce considerably good special effects and the main theme keeps entertaining through the film. The carrying force of the film, Space Nazis! does not get old and the films slander towards the more earthly powers raised a smirk on my face more than few times. In addition the film has also had a fair share of old school geek scene references and remarks which hit home with me and earned some extra point for the film.

The actor choices are also mostly good with the only exception in the cast being the terrible monstrosity of James Washington. The Michael Jackson look alike character was just terrible through the film and served only to hurt the film in all possible ways. Which leads us to the main problem of Iron Sky, the script. Much of the films low downs can be forgiven by the fact that the director still had to work with a tight budget and the fact that Space Nazi story is just so out of this world. However they are not enough to compensate for the fact the script is full of embarrassingly evident flaws. E.g. The script jumps from scene to scene sometimes totally unlogically and some of the scenes make very little sense.

Even so the sheer idea of Iron Sky and the directors determination alone to combine Nazis, space and parody is commendable. I very much wanted to like Iron Sky, but the funny moments in it are too few and far between to save the film from it's sub par script.
