Review of Iron Sky (2012) by Chinedu O — 02 Dec 2012
I was really hoping that "Iron Sky" would live up to its potential, but I was disappointed. It's a story about WW2-era Nazis who build a massive super-weapon on the far side of the moon, and then try to invade Earth after 70 years of utter secrecy.
There are so many ways that a story about space Nazis could have gone, and much to my disappointment, it tried ALL of them. Clumsily shambling between buddy-action-adventure, comedy, absurdity, and political drama.
What could have been an amazing homage to delicious cheesy sci-fi became a mish-mash of aborted ideas, uneven pacing, and bad acting, all driven by some mediocre writing. I laughed heartily at the first internet-meme humor.
.. and I kept waiting for more gags, but there were no more. Maybe some of the humor got lost in translation? I'm not sure... but I am very glad I didn't go to the theater for this. I was going to give "Iron Sky" just 1.
5 stars, but I added a half star as a nod to the filmmakers for an honest effort in the effects and costume departments.
