Review of Iron Man 3 (2013) by Durk C — 07 Dec 2015
The more I watch this movie and the more I think about it again and again, it isn't as great as I thought. I mean it does transition well from The Avengers, the action scenes are brilliant, it's funny, each actor gives a good performance, and it gives a good social commentary of how we see evil with a face, but the writing isn't entirely top-notch.
Aside from Tony Stark suffering from post-traumatic stress and having to fight with his intelligence and wit, which I bought into, everything else turned out weak. The premise feels too similar to The Incredibles (Killian is Syndrome, Stark is Mr.
Incredible, Rhodey is Frozone, the villain has something that can turn his allies super just to name a few), Killian isn't interesting as a villain when you look at those similarities and has just a generic revenge story, and the twist is down right stupid (not saying, "Oh, that's not the Mandarin," and all that butthurt fanboy crap).
The fact that it was an actor pretending to be a terrorist is stupid and that was played for laughs. Seriously?! It could have been a lot stronger if it was just a mercenary covering for Killian. Overall, the movie is alright.
It's not terrible, just flawed. It still has enough for me to go back to it. Believe me, I've seen a lot worse.
