Review of Iron Man 3 (2013) by Andy G — 17 Apr 2015
I'm not a big fan of some of the story choices they made in this movie, however, there were a few things they did really right. First, they did a great job answering the question Bruce Banner asked Tony in Avengers "who are you without your armor?" (besides "genius billionaire playboy philanthropist") by showing that he has enough skills to handle himself without his suit if necessary. The movie also was directed very well and had fantastic visuals. I do think the attempt at a twist was a poor choice and would have preferred if they had just kept the plot to a fairly simple extremis story, without the Mandarin. The movie was also severely lacking in the trademark comedic timing of the previous Iron Man movies and Avengers, making it feel quite off in the series. I hope if they do an Iron Man 4, as has been hinted at by RDJ, I hope they get Jon Favreau back as Director, and give him as much creative control as he wants (without forcing him into doing stuff he doesn't want like in IM2) or maybe even Joss Whedon as I think he's great with the character. Overall, still a pretty good movie but I still prefer the other Iron Man movies over this.
74%.
