Review of Iron Man 3 (2013) by Jasav J — 16 Apr 2016
From the opening music it's clear that Iron Man 3 takes itself less serious than any other Marvel film and that's the problem with it, it's very self aware and repeatedly pats itself on the back for that throughout its 130 minute running time.
The enemies powers in this film vary hugely, they range from a bit stronger than normal people to powers reaching over 9,000, all much to the convenience of its writer/director really and it all comes off with a "but it's ok, we're not taking it too seriously and we're self aware of that" smugness to it.
Downey Jr is such great casting that it's hard to tell if he's even acting anymore, the talented Rebecca Hall is absolutely wasted here, Ben Kingsley plays his best role in years and Don Cheadle is still happy to be here.
Like many superhero movies Iron Man 3 falls flat on its face in the third act, yet another bog standard CGI fest that attempts to be bigger than anything that came before it but lays it on too thickly, the one risky moment it does try ends up being a cop out.
