Review of Iron Man (2008) by Rohit N — 07 Mar 2015

Folks, this is one of the best lower scale superhero movies today. They could not have portrayed the character of Tony Stark or Iron Man any better. What is really special about the film is their choice not to montage over the building process of the Mark I.

Most of this film shows the process of building such a complicated suit of armor/weapon. Iron Man also handles the realistic idea of what being a superhero would be like. Tony Stark's transition into wanting to be that guy comes across smoothly with his egotistical personality.

The villain played by Jeff Bridges was really only alright in my opinion but Robert Downey Jr.'s stellar performance outweighs the negatives with ease. On a bonus level, part of the reason this movie is so special, is while being a self contained movie with a full and sustained storyline, it also managed to do the impossible and set up an entire universe of movies.

Watching this film again while knowing what it spawned is really a treat to the movie history being made with superhero films today. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is arguably the most impressive and outmatched occurrences in movie history that both superhero movie fans and superhero movie haters (the very few of you) should all realize.

There have been many exceptional movie franchises before, even movie spinoffs, however this is the first time multiple franchises became intertwined in the same universe to create an even more substantial story/franchise including each individual character from their own respected franchises.

Now that's a mouth-full. This beyond exquisite phenomenon is all thanks to Iron Man. If this movie had just half the success it actually had, I doubt these movies would have continued for very long.

It takes a great movie to carry a conclusive plot, it takes an even greater movie to carry that conclusive plot, while pushing forward a larger storyline stretching across multiple movies.
