Review of Iron Man (2008) by Xander M — 20 Jan 2018
Before this movie came out I had my doubts. I expected it to be a giant mess. Robert Downey Jr. felt like the wrong choice. Speaking of wrong choices, why would the director of Zathura and Elf be allowed to direct this.
Then I watched this movie and it was amazing. Robert Downey Jr. nailed it. Jeff Bridges was a menacing villain. Terrence Howard was good. The comedy worked. This was the days. When the comedy was funny and the villains were good.
The action is good. Everything works. It sets up S.H.I.E.L.D without making the movie overstuffed with plot. It even sets up the Avengers in a great post-credit scene that I am sure no one saw on their first viewing.
My only gripe is while the first while of the movie feels amazing, specifically the amazing opening, the ending wraps up like a regular blockbuster action movie. Overall an great movie.
