Review of Iron Man (2008) by Sam V — 23 Sep 2013
This was lightning in a bottle. They could not find a better actor to portray Tony Stark than Robert Downey Jr.. He pulls off a performance that is already iconic for a character that is now a household name.
Jon Favereau also delivers a funny and thoughtful comicbook adventure that is very much about storytelling and good characters that adds to the summer blockbuster aesthetic. The cast is game and surrounds Downey Jr. with strong support. I refuse to acknowledge Gwyneth Paltrow, because based on what she delivered any actress could have done her job just as well if not better. It's a paycheck job for her and it shows throughout all 3 movies.
Of course the hook is the action and fx which is nothing short of seamless and fun. They kicked the cool factor to the highest notch and fleshed out Iron Man in a magical way.
Overall what we have here is a near perfect comicbook stew with the right ingredients applied with spot on measurements to deliver one of the most well rounded adaptations in the genre.
