Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Maggie G — 26 Mar 2014
Between 2.5 and 3, and that's much for me when we talk about a superhoeres movie. Better than the first one, but in the same style. We have some characters well developed, well characterized, which take their decisions to the limit: a narcisist Tony Stark, a vengative and independent Mickey Rourke, cold Black Widow, organized Pepper Pots, responsible Don Cheadle, strong Dr.
Fury, a demanding and insecure Sam Rockwell, with different bands fighting against each other... That way, the movie is a wonderful study of characters, taking them to their limits, what also has its limitations: Tony Stark is too much of himself (and he fills the movie a little too much), Sam Rockwell's character is a little ridiculous, etc.
.. The scene in Montecarlo is spectacular, the best I have seen in a long time in action cinema. It develops the plot without the fights, as it had to be (although there are some aspects which are diminished to what they could have been, and some possibilities that weren't approached), although it moves too much about politics.
The end is like the first one, with a lot of action and shooting and all that nonsense stuff, that is the worst point of the movie. The other visual effects are very good, even overwhelming. The conclusion is that is a good exploration of characters, and also an introduction to The Avengers, with constant blinks to them.
