Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Paul J — 26 Apr 2015
Marvel does it again. A solid story with strong characters and brilliant action. Robert Downey Jr. once again is a joy to watch and the plot thickens with more characters adding to the complexity of the Marvel universe.
At the center of the story, is Iron Man's struggle with celebrity status and his ego spiraling out of control. The villain compliments this nicely with the backstory being about stealing credit for an invention.
There's also plenty of subtext for the comic book fans (references to Captain America, Hulk and Thor) as well as Scarlett Johanssen practically stealing the show. Ultimately though, it's the stellar action sequences that blow the audience away.
How could an Iron Man fan be disappointed? (A couple nice touches include the director playing the chauffeur and bodyguard, as well as War Machine's evolution. You'll notice he fights with artillery, whereas Iron Man fights with fists and energy.
