Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Andy G — 25 May 2015
While there was certainly some problems with the story, possibly due to studio intervention like Age of Ultron, Jon Favreau's directing style definitely more than makes up for any problems the story may have had. Heck even the first Iron Man's story wasn't really all that special either. It's the actors and their quick wit and chemistry together. A lot of great improvisational talent there. I think they missed an opportunity with Vanko though. The first act of the movie showed great potential for Vanko to be similar to Bane from The Dark Knight Rises in a few ways, with the whole psychological warfare sort of aspect, but shortly after his first battle his potential diminished quite a lot. Regardless, when you have talented people working on a movie, that talent shines through, and I think it does for this movie. Not quite as good as Iron Man 1, but a bit better than Iron Man 3.
