Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Ben T — 10 Apr 2015

When people talk about the weakest movies in the marvel cinematic universe everyone seems to talk about iron man 2 as the weakest and well I agree. Even though this is probably the weakest cinematic universe movie that doesn't make it a bad movie.

Unfortunately this is just a really mediocre movie. One of the best things about the movie is the acting. Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Clark Gregg, Don Cheadle and Samuel L Jackson are all brilliant.

However the scene stealer like last time is Robert Downey Jr he's fantastic as Tony Stark, however for most of the film I don't like the character, it's such a shame that after his growth in the first movie Tony has gone back to being an arrogant asshole, who acts like an asshole for most of the film.

The villains also are awful. Mickey Rourke is really good but Whiplash is a terrible villain. He has little motivation and after he attacks at the race he does nothing until the ending. Sam Rockwell also plays Justin Harmer who is a really bad villain and poses very little threat.

Even though I did like Terrence Howard in as Rhodey in the first movie I think Don Cheadle is a really good replacement and is probably better. The action is unfortunately very underwhelming, there's very little of it and the gaps in between are too long.

The end fight scene in the first movie was good but the final action scene in this movie is just bad. This film is also quite boring, there are just long stretches in the movie that are boring. Also seeing Pepper Pots and Tony Stark fight is just really boring.

However this film is fairly entertaining and Jon Favreau directs it really well. Overall this film is overlong, boring and quite underwhelming, however it has great acting, servicible action and it is a fairly entertaining.

As mediocre and flawed it is I'm not sure I can call it a bad film. B-.
