Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Dan A — 25 Mar 2016
The movie was decent, but clearly nowhere near the greatness of the first. It lost that fresh magic and has a lot of flaws. Whiplash was a cool villain but there is no real climactic fight in this movie. He gets beaten pretty quick the first time and it doesn't last long, and the second time is probably shorter. It was overall a disappointing series of showdowns and the best action in the film was Black Widow, which was only ONE scene. It was awesome though. There is too strong of an attempt at comedy which I felt was the movie's biggest problem. From the very beginning when you see Iron Man dancing with cheerleaders, it's just over the top and ridiculous. It gets worse when he is throwing a party, pisses himself in his suit, and is falling around drunk as Iron Man. Oh, and Samuel Jackson doesn't play Nick Fury in this movie. He plays Samuel Jackson. He doesn't portray Nick Fury at all. It's just Samuel Jackson wearing an eye patch. Funny and all, but how about ACTING for once? C'mon, we know you're a bad mutha*censored*a, but it would be nice to fill your role as an ACTOR some day. These moments were terrible. It still had some redeeming qualities, but the overall package could have been much better. This whole story didn't need to be done, the way they involved War Machine could have been better too. What the hell happened to the talk and promises of portraying Tony Stark's alcoholism like in the comics? Stark had a serious drinking problem, he wasn't pissing himself in the suit and *censored*ing around at parties. This was like a bastardization of the comics.
Iron Man was great, Iron Man 2 was good, but could have been much better.
