Review of Iron Man (1931) by Yoann E — 02 Sep 2015

It's kind of surprising that I haven't done the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie review, but it feels kind of weird as I haven't really done any of the other MCU movies at this point so I'm going to start all the way back at the beginning with solo film that started it all the original Iron Man (2007).

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is a billionaire, genius, military industrial,playboy who while out in the desert showing off his new weapon called Jericho muscles or something he's caught up in a fire fight and taking some shrapnel in his chest he is taken hostage and held until either he dies or can recreate some weapon that these terrorists can use. Alongside another captive scientist he builds not only a simple device to keep his heart beating that will eventually turn into the arc reactor, but also builds his mark 1 Iron Man outfit which he uses to break free of the prison and eventually find his way back to the United States. Back in the states he decides to drop his companies venture into wartime weaponry and focus on peacetime efforts. which everyone find surprising among those his secretary Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow), his bodyguard "Happy" Hogan (Director Jon Favereau), his good friend Colonel Rhodes (Terence Howard), and his partner Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges). Long story short we pretty much get the origin story of Tony Stark becoming and learning to be Iron Man, an initial look into his relationships, and learning to take responsibility among other things that teach him to start turning into an actual superhero. I felt this movie had a lot of good yet simple points for an origin story. It's one of the best comic book movies I would put it in my top 10. I felt the action scenes were really great looking for being nearly a decade old, and the final fight at the end with, SPOILERS, Obadiah Stane in a bigger Ironman else it was actually pretty damn cool if just an excuse for him to actually just fight a villain at the end of the movie. Iron Man gave me a very optimistic view into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After this I had no idea where they were going to take it, but looking back in retrospective; it's an excellent start to this experiment which has turned into a very critically acclaimed and financially successful series of movies that are still going on and showing no sign of slowing down as of the last movie released being Ant Man. It goes without saying I recommend this movie to anyone who loves comic book movies, action movies, and you just need to see it, it's a fun origin story that paved the way for many other fun action thrill rides to come.
