Review of Iron Jawed Angels (2004) by S H — 06 Sep 2006
Such an important story. Unfortunately, the directing is tragic. Over-saturated colors, MTV editing, glamour lighting and rock and hip-hop beats for a soundtrack?!! This did take place in the early 1900s right? This is a film that is supposed to *impress* its audience with the gritty reality of what these women faced and over-came, right?
Are we really supposed to believe that all the young leaders of the suffragette movement were gorgeous women who smiled big while staring power square in the eye? And the corny love story? According to history, Alice Paul never married because she put 110% of her energy into organizing, all the way until she died in her 80s? The love story is totally unnecessary and preposterous.
This is a *perfect* example of a re-enactment gone bad.
