Review of Iron Jawed Angels (2004) by J D — 25 Apr 2008
It's uneven in places, but overall an entertaining movie with a really great cast of talented young actresses. I wasn't sold on von Garnier's conceit of using modern indy music in the score and trying to make the young suffragists into "grrrlz" because of their progressive politics, but I'll give her points for trying, just didn't work for me in this one.
And the love story with Patrick Dempsey was pretty pointless. I liked him in "Can't Buy Me Love", but these days, now that he's McDreamy, all his roles seem to involve nothing more than him smiling smugly because he knows the ladies go for him (see also "Enchanted" and the upcoming "Made of Honor").
Sorry, tangent. Anyway, it's a well-acted (with the exception of Dempsey) movie about an interesting and important time in American history, definitely worth a watch.
