Review of Irma Vep (1996) by Joey P — 15 Jun 2007
I wrote a paper on Irma Vep last year and have thus watched this film on repeat many times over. Am I bored of it? Hell, no! This film provides a critique of french and hong kong cinema and stars some of the most amazing people in contemporary cinema - Maggie Cheung, the woman I love, and her ex-man Olivier Assayas who's pretty damn intellectual.
Quirky, yet serious at the same time, Irma Vep examines the declining state of French cinema, while also exploring the star persona of Cheung and HK cinema's impact on the film industry writ large.
