Review of Irina Palm (2007) by Mikael K — 02 Feb 2009
The essence of the film is the scene where Sarah confronts the overly outraged Tom with the concept that we say we love our kids and would do anything for them, but are there limits? My fascination focused on Marianne Faithfull.
She is truly an iconic figure living her life so close to the edge. In this film, her stretch was being an ordinary, stereotypical, middle-aged, non-descript housewife/widow. The job she lands to help pay for her grandson's medical expenses allows her a sense of freedom and the strength to stand up to those that have treated her as a doormat for so many years.
The scene where she finally discloses to the bridge club is precious.
