Review of Ira & Abby (2006) by Jacob H — 02 Sep 2008
An astonishingly backwards view of marriage. This film begs the question: "Is marriage really worth anything?" Their answer is: "OF COURSE NOT!!" For instance, the main couple get engaged their first day knowing each other, then married I believe 2 weeks later, many problems ensue and he cheats, their parents cheat, and what is their solution? Well firstly they have an orgy of therapy sessions all at once with everyone involved in the story, including every therapist that they, and their families have gone to. Also the couple decides that the institution of marriage is severely flawed and merely a dying trend, so they get divorced and live happily ever after. Wow.
This film is riddled with poorly written characters that only make you loathe their very existence. It isn't cute. So the girl makes friends with a mugger and gathers funds to help him out financially so that he can be on his merry way. Yeah, that isn't cute, it is incredibly idiotic and it is insulting that we are to take it as anything remotely positive.
It is a shame that anything could ever view the cheater as the victim and marriage as the source for the cheating. Screw this movie up the butthole.
