This was an odd film, I think. I may have missed something at the beginning, but did the film ever give a year when things take place? If not, it was not until the movie theatre scene where things started making sense to me and I began realizing that it did not take place in 1994. I just thought that time was irrelevant or something and that is where Albert came from, but I guess not. Maybe that's just a poor way to design the world. Aside from that though I had a good time with the film. As far as a film goes, it is a pretty standard romantic comedy, but mostly all of the elements of humor hit at least minimally and the cast is pretty charming. Meg Ryan is probably the stand out, though the performance is nothing overly impressive. Still, she is sweet and trapped, constantly locked in a struggle and constantly overcoming. It's a pretty cool role and I think she bring a good deal of personality to the character. The plot is interesting and, thankfully, does not take a back seat to the romance or the comedy, so I can really appreciate that aspect. The direction never really jumped out at me and I would have to call it pretty standard. The film is a fun enough watch to escape in an interesting romance for an hour and a half, but I was never completely floored by the film. Still, it's a film that I would watch again if it is ever on the picture box, which I reckon is the highest praise I can give to this type of film. Wish I had more to say, but thanks for the dictation corndog.
