Review of I.Q. (1994) by Jasmine B — 11 Mar 2005
Extremely cute movie about the romance between Albert Einstein's niece and an ordinary mechanic named Ed.
The lead roles are played by Walter Matthau, Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins. I am no longer a fan of Ryan's work, but she plays this part beautifully.
Matthau is brilliant (literally) as Einstein, who doesn't like Ryan's cold fish fiancee and takes it upon himself, with a little help from his fellow scientists, to make her fall in love with Ed, who is already smitten with her.
I won't spoil it, but it has a wonderful supporting cast and is one of the few modern romantic comedies which doesn't make me ill.
I love the looks Robbins and Ryan exchange during some of their verbal battles. It reminded me of a few times in my life when I looked at a special person and felt that "jolt." It's so weird to think about that sudden moment when you feel that you have fallen in love with someone or just known that they feel that way about you.I actually felt physically ill the first time it happened to me. I think I still feel that way sometimes.
Anyway, getting too personal now.
I really love this movie and need to buy it immediately. It's cute, sweet, funny and romantic without being trite or ridiculous.
