Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Wolfenstein51 — 08 May 2016

Going into this movie, I was expecting it to be slightly better than Ip Man 2. I never thought it would top the original Ip Man, but that is exactly what happened. Ip Man 3 ranks up there with the best martial arts movies of all time and I really believe this will be seen as a classic in the years to come.

Where to start? If I would choose one reason why I love this film (other than the incredible action scenes), is that it has heart. The film is actually about something meaningful and the importance of family above all else.

I was seriously tearing up during a few scenes and anyone who is a father, husband or has close family will feel the emotion that was on display here. It really caught me off guard as I thought this would be just another typical action movie.

What can I say about the fighting? Absolutely incredible, the elevator fight scene and the final fight will be seen as two of the best martial arts sequences ever put on film. If you thought The Raid: Redemption fight scenes were good, these fight scenes top them in every respect.

And I love that the Mike Tyson fight is really just a side event fight and not the main event which any other lazy director would have done. I plan to watch this film with my kids because of the great moral lessons taught in this film.
