Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Steve W — 23 Jan 2016
If this is to be Yen's last outing as Ip Man, it is a poignant and fitting end. The plot is rather scattered, as a corrupt American developer wants to buy the land where impoverished children go to school.
Master Ip Man must take the fight to injustice, with some electrifying fight scenes, and incredible cinematography and fight choreography. What is even more important, a subplot ends up making the film more than just a brawl fest, it adds genuine emotion and tenderness.
Besides the wild and spectacular fights and stunt work, the acting and chemistry make for a more humanizing protagonist, rather than just a fighting machine. Ip Man 3 is not perfect, but very well crafted and enjoyable.
