Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Parris M — 15 Mar 2016
I understand they're just milking the series for extra cash, but this one was pretty cringe worthy... Mike Tyson's role was merely a publicity stunt to gain more ticket sales.. And you can definitely tell in their last fight.
The story seemed forced, and the cinematography makes it feel like Chinese action films = over abundant use of slow motion. We get it. It's trying to make a movement really dramatic. It's when I started noticing it in various recent Kung fu movies that made me see how much they use the slow motion "trick". Seriously, it just felt gimmicky at times. The Bruce Lee intro was cool, but that was it.
Tyson's acting was extremely difficult to watch. And the dubbing for him so he can speak Cantonese is very noticeable. It reminded me of old Chinese dub films where their lips didn't line up with what they said.
The fight scenes were okay, nothing spectacular. I guess you can even say predictable.
