Review of Ip Man (2008) by Foong M — 23 Apr 2012
This movie is purely commercial and nothing but to generate nationalist sentiment from East Asia and recalled the past trauma during Second World War. However the script write and director also deliberately put a balance between the evil and benevolent part of Japanese army treating the Chinese.
In terms of of a real battle between Ip Man and Miura.
This movie is quite good for Donnie Yan, and he is never good in acting but always good in fight. A calm, serene character like Ip Man is best for a poor acting skill actor like him.
Another thing that I dislike is the fictional fight between Ip Man and Miura. If someone google the biography of Ip Man will know that Ip Man was famous being the teacher of Bruce Lee, but he never fought a Japanese in his life.
Crappy made up story with purely commercial sentiment to attract Chinese audience.
