Review of Ip Man (2008) by Chris A — 12 Jun 2013
There have been some good martial artists of today, such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Tony Ja. There have been some good martial movies such as fearless, hero, and drunken master. But when it comes to great and mastery there was only one.
Bruce Lee. No one truly had his skills or the films to show those skills. Until Donne Yen. Though he has had his share of bad films, Ip Man is a blast to the past, where Kung Fu was just as much about character development as it was the action.
This movie has a ton of heart, a ton of suspense and a script (though foreign) that you can actually enjoy. It is a love story to Bruce Lee's master and what he had to go through in China to make it to becoming a great master.
If your going to watch a kung fu movie, this is the kind of film that is Kung Fu.
