Review of Invisible Children (2006) by Alec B — 29 May 2012
Short version: Overblown vanity project. Long version: It fails to add anything new to the dialogue. Yes, these are the Kony people. They walk into Africa, expecting have a vacation, and realize, oh wait, maybe conditions in Africa aren't so great.
It's so staged, and I can tell the vacation premise is fake. They clearly intended to make this horrendously sad film, and I feel manipulated having watched it. Sure, it's a good cause, but this film is crap.
It's so pretentious. It's less about bad conditions in Africa(which, like the Kony video, seem highly exaggerated), but more about the filmmaker's mental masturbation about how great people they are for recognizing this cause.
Att; the end of the day, it's an overblown vanity project; the filmmakers have a noble cause, but it's obvious to me that the circumstances of the film are forced and handled in such a blunt and uncoordinated way that I fail to take anything away other than Jason Russell is a pretentious ass.
