Review of Invictus (2009) by Michael S — 11 Jan 2011
It would seem that Clint Eastwood is physically incapable of making a bad movie. The basic concept for the film doesnt actually sound particularly riveting, but once again Eastwood soars and makes a movie that will neither break box-office records, nor be a 'movie event', but instead educates and inspires us.
The story of how Nelson Mandela chose the white-supported Springboks Rugby team as the symbol for his countries newly-found unity, and how he worked together with the Springbok captain to win the world cup, and inspire a nation, is truly moving, and is captured wonderfully by some great acting. The only thing that let the film down at times was the music...there are some silly American-type anthems in there when African music would have worked much, much better...but other than that, this is a great film.
