Review of Invictus (2009) by Andrew A — 01 Feb 2011
Obviously the story of South Africa's freedom from apartheid, and the release & rise to power of Nelson Mandela, is a truly worthy, & historic one. But in the context of a rugby movie, albeit a very positive one? It just doesn't work.
Morgan Freeman brings great gravitas to his role as Mandela, yet ultimately ambles through the part, as though it were made for him. The rugby scenes are certainly realistic, and therefore as physical, yet dull and lifeless, as the sport can be itself.
