Review of Invictus (2009) by Lance M — 27 Aug 2011
Aboslutely loce this film, and not just because its based on a South African true story.
Invictud is based on the story of the South African national rugby team (The Springboks) in the built up to South African hosting the 1995 IRB Rugby World Cup just after the countries first fully democratic elections in April 1994.
The film focuses on newly elected president Nelson Mandela's involvement in the tournament.
Personally I think they story has been told by Director Clint Eastwood brilliantly, portraying the racial divide well to the viewers. Matt Damon also does a brilliant South African accent, the best ive heard in years, in my opinion even better Leonardo Di Caprio in Blood Diamond (and that was good).
Having said that, the only fault I have with the film is Morgan Freeman's attempt at being a black South African. Morgan really struggled with the accent which is honestly the only fault I have with the film. Morgan, americanised pronunciation comes out in just about every sentence that comes out of his mouth, an im not talking about typical South African words which most would struggle with, im talking about normal everyday english words that Morgan simple csnt get this Americanisation out of.
But through this one nevative, I dont think it takes anything out of the story, and wouldnt even be noticed by most non-Africans so Invictus still gets 5/5 from me.
Highly Recommended.
