Review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Caleb C — 27 Jan 2012
I liked this film as much as the prior Body Snatcher film, but I liked it for different reasons.
The prior film really shined with the acting and the psychological horror. This one shines primarily in its even-scary-today effects. The scene with the dog near the end (if you see it you'll know what I'm talking about) was notably frightening. The plot was also very well-adapted for the more modern age. The only big complaint I have about this film is the pacing, which felt much too slow, particularly near the end, which seemed to drag on forever in spite of the high-action moments. One other thing to note: regardless of what the MPAA gave this film, it definitely does not have material appropriate for the PG rating, much more a PG13 film, because honestly if I had seen this as a kid, it would have given me nightmares, plus you see more of Elizabeth Driscoll at the end than you should.
