Review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Jessi T — 20 Nov 2007

This is a great horror movie, although quite obviously made in the 70s some of the deeper themes resonate nowadays. This is a metaphor for the threat of communism (during the cold war), especially in the scenes where Donald Sutherland's character Matthew tries to phone various people but every phone call is monitored and he gets put through to the operator everytime. The ideas of the worker working for the state and the people pointing out the traitors (or in this case non body-snatched) is also communist and in someways if you've read 1984 - totalitarian.

The last scene just goes to show that whatever you do you can't get away, a very pessimistic ending. Fantastic.
