Improves on the original in ways I didn't think were possible. The "pods" acted like people without emotions, unlike the '56 version, and the story has time to flesh itself out and breathe, while there's also no ham-fisted "happy ending" epilogue, unlike the '56 version.
Acting is superb generally (although I must admit Nimoy is a bit distracting) - they really make you feel for the characters, for the most part. Quite good, highly recommended.
