Review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Kevin D — 03 Jun 2010

You've got to love the early days of the MPAA, only then could movies like this one and the movie I previously reviewed, Harold and Maude, could have gotten away with PG ratings. Also, I need to say that this movie had one of the greatest endings I've ever seen.

To be honest with you, I don't know if I gave this movie a fair shot. I have a lot on my mind (my new work schedule, I'm in the process of changing to a new bank, I need to complete my loan for college, I need to finish watching two other movies and write reviews for them, I have 4 other movies to pick up at the library, I have plans to hang out with friends later on today, and I need to pack up things for my college orientation on Sunday).

I guess you can say that my schedule is completely filled up. But aren't movies supposed to make you forget about real life and transport you into another world and make you forget about your worries.

Well I guess this one didn't. This movie was extremely well-shot, the cinematography was literally out of this world (pun intended). The sound effects were great and I liked the film score. There was an all star cast (the elder Sutherland, Goldblum, Nimoy) and the premise was very interesting (DON'T GO TO SLEEP!).

The movie also made an effort to create character development since the movie didn't jump into the plot until 20 or so minutes into the minutes into the movie. So what went wrong, you ask? I wish I could answer that question.

I guess I just lost interest in the movie's second half. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I didn't think the movie's minor conflicts were not executed well enough to keep the audience in the film.

Either that, or my mind was just out of the movie. This isn't a bad movie and I wouldn't mind watching it in the future and giving it a second chance, I just felt that it wasn't very engaging.
