Alien invasion themes in film history has taken many permutations of concepts, but only a handful of those were good. But "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" belongs in the rare category of "great".
the story did not demand of any "metal ships" or armageddon type destruction ala "Independence Day", it only required a pink flower, limitless creativity and mastery of cinematic trickery.
It also paved way to the "don't fall asleep" defense mechanism against the horrors of the film, six years even before Freddy Kruger completely immortalized the said utterance . Donald Sutherland is a capable lead, maintaining the strong exterior amidst hopelessness, and with facial complexities which gave birth to the iconic final sequence.
Remakes nowadays are only catered to fans with a superficial intention of "bringing forth an old film to the new generation". But never have they mentioned the words "improvement" and "visionary", which this film never runs out of.
A classic remake of a classic film.
