Review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Jarkko T — 20 Aug 2010
A chilling and atmospheric remake of the 1950s communist paranoid original (yes, a successful remake is also possible) with plenty to meet the visual and narrative criteria required to pull it off. If you've ever wondered where that emblematic 1980s horror movie look originated, look no further than here, as the brilliant use of ambient hues and slanted camera views comes to the fore, complemented by an intense sound experience and a sensation of involvement.
Furthermore, even though the movie's greatest strengths are to be found in its aesthetics, the cast is also of high calibre and the progress of the story quite satisfying. Were it not for a surplus of about 15 minutes in running time and a lack of that little extra something in overall experience (who knows what?), Invasion might have resulted in something even greater.
