I have seen this a few times and it maintains its eerie appeal. The special effects are still remarkable for a pre-CGI movie (not that I am a CGI fan to begin with, but still...). Sound is used quite inventively to create a sense of menace.
Those creepy dolphin like alien shrieks make my hair stand on end. Uncompromisingly bleak without saccharine Hollywood sentimentality.. Its nice to watch Jeff Goldblum and Donald Sutherland work their acting chops.
A great pick for Halloween!
