Review of Intruders (2015) by Allangw — 01 Mar 2017
The current 5.3 score imho is way off the mark. We found this film in an obscure area of our Amazon fire films where "Z films" go to rot. Maybe I'm totally wrong here, but I don't like murder after murder films which have no apparent reasons other than the director over-bought on discount blood.
"Intruders," although I wasn't sure at the outset where it would lead given my intro, I have to conclude 10/10. Thanks to the characters and twisted story. I'd say it's a natural horror, meaning each character has a motive, and each contributes to the horror. It's not forced; not frustrating; not who dies next; not omg horrific or disgusting - it's a progression of events moved along by the characters' motives. Each event has a reason.
Spoiler warning:
The masterpiece for me was Jiminez the lead character, Gothic other-worldly, strongly contrasting everyone else of 'our modern age' which is gradually revealed particularly by the hapless lawyer's narrow escape. The lawyer could've been killed but it's done in such a way that (since the genre's horror) you kinda kill her in your mind imagining what Jiminez character would do to her but the lawyer walks safely away. A crafty scene.
Physically strong women fail for me so often in films, and Jiminez character is teabag weak but she's dangerous in so many ways. The ending. Horror films often lose it with the final scene, but not "Intruders." A beautiful scene of horror; an insane face in firelight. There are no words it has to be seen.
