Review of Intruders (2013) by Quebin A — 05 Apr 2012
"Monsters are cowards. You stand up to them they run away." - John Farrow.
What would you if your nightmares are becoming real? That is the theme "The Intruders" played throughout the film. It was a basic story but conversed in a very frightening manner. It doesn't slow down, once you feel that the bogeyman's coming, he sure is coming. The great thing about this film is that it feeds on our night terrors, fears, imagination we had when we are young, that feeling like someone's staring at you in the dark, something's in your room and you're getting goose bumps, that ominous creature under your bed, or all of those creaking sound you here when everybody's sleeping. It was very effective. Every time you saw a child, hides themselves under the sheets you know what they are thinking, what they are going through. The director knows how to provide terror. Kudos for him. The direction is really fast paced and it doesn't slow down. The plot is fascinating. Narrated in two separate location whose only connection is the figure. It was very engaging and the ominousity is felt. The performances are good. Not award winning. But I should give kudos to the kids on this one. They can really tap onto moviegoers' emotions and make you feel for them. Amazing kids. I should have given this movie a 5 but with the sloppy execution towards the final act, made me score this movie a 4. It was tight since the opening creepy scene but loses it's potential towards the last straw. It was a very intriguing and disturbing journey that's worth watching for. 4 out of 5 stars! :).
