Review of Intolerable Cruelty (2003) by Valerio R — 10 Dec 2008
This is film is like a light yogurt- refreshing, entertaining, but not very memorable. Very 1950's-war-of-the-sexes-kind of thing. Clooney's brisk, witty lines are catchy and the character seems to have been created just for him.
Clooney's best asset is the fact that he visibly enjoys his job and has the whole bonvivant thing going on. Catherine Zeta Jones also seems to be born to play women like these, over-ambitious man-eating gold diggers.
Just when you think that the sarcasm couldn't get any better, the whole thing slips down into the cliche with all its boring predictabilities. Quite a pleasurable treat, but I certainly expected more from the Coens.
