'Intolerable Cruelty' has all the elements of a screwball comedy. Clooney and Zeta-Jones are both hustlers, and they admire each other. The screenplay falls short, however, because (not to spoil it) there is no payoff at the end.
You want to like these characters, and you do like these characters, but the Coens strip away those sentiments. Maybe they go too far. Still there are some very funny scenes.
