Review of Intolerable Cruelty (2003) by Octavio M — 30 Jul 2013
Although I despise the majority of rom coms produced by the studio system each and every year, there is that one movie that just subverts audiences expectations when it comes to the genre. In the case of the movie at hand, the Coens not only subvert the genre, they derail, set fire, and urinate on the genre of romantic comedies at large, which was strangely amusing.
In addition, and in a strange way, this movie was also an introspection and deconstruction of how characters interact to the ridiculous unfolding events that make those other movies look even more ridiculous (in a farcical kind of way) by comparison.
